Which research indicators are available and why readership analytics are off

2 min read Updated August 25, 2026

CUEBES keeps optional publication readership analytics off. Opening a publication or downloading a file does not create a readership analytics record.

What is available

Citation information

Citation counts are scholarly publication metadata. They can be matched through sources such as Crossref and Semantic Scholar when a publication has enough identifying information, such as a DOI or an accurate title and author list.

Publication and citation indicators

Your research profile can show the publications you added, citation totals, and citation-derived indicators such as an h-index or i10-index. These indicators describe publications and citations; they do not measure who viewed or downloaded something on CUEBES.

What CUEBES does not collect for readership analytics

  • Publication page views
  • File download counts
  • The person or account that opened or downloaded a publication
  • IP addresses, devices, user agents, locations, or referrers for readership measurement

This applies whether someone is signed in or signed out. Old consent values, preferences, and deployment settings cannot turn the retired collectors back on.

Publication insights

A publication owner can open the Insights page to see the current collection status and citation metadata. Readership charts, country lists, referrers, and “most read” rankings are unavailable because CUEBES is not collecting the activity needed to produce them.

Service data is separate

CUEBES still processes the account, publication, file, access-control, and security information needed to provide features you request. That necessary service processing is separate from optional readership analytics and cannot be reused as readership measurement.

Future measurement

CUEBES will not reactivate the retired person-level analytics system. Any future measurement feature requires a separate privacy review, a clear purpose, an explicit opt-in, and anonymous aggregate-at-write counters without person, account, session, IP, device, content, or join identifiers.
