The Union, the Star and the Eagle: EU-NATO Cooperation Under Trump 2.0
Abstract
This brief examines current EU-NATO relations, which have deepened since Russia's 2022 invasion of Ukraine. While the organisations share 23 member states and face comparable security threats, structural constraints — including differing memberships and duplication concerns — limit deeper cooperation. The analysis addresses both positive collaborative efforts and emerging tensions, particularly those arising from transatlantic frictions under the Trump administration. The author recommends reinforcing EU-NATO coordination while preparing for potential transatlantic uncertainty.
